HERE COMES THE DREAMER, LET’S KILL HIM

on
And when they saw him from a distance, even before he came close to them, they plotted to kill him. They said to one another, “Look, here comes this dreamer. Now then, come and let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits (cisterns, underground water storage); then we will say [to our father], ‘A wild animal killed and devoured him’; and we shall see what will become of his dreams!” Genesis 37:18-20 AMP

Here comes the dreamer, let’s kill him! This reveals what Joseph brothers had in their heart because out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The enemy’s plan has always been to kill, steal and destroy in this case, after listening to the great dreams God gave Joseph, his obvious next step is to kill. This is the reason why we should never share your dreams, instead ask God for wisdom on what next to do.
What’s mind blowing is the motivation behind the plan to kill Joseph. Let’s eavesdrop:- …let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits…. and we shall see what will become of his dreams!

The motivation behind planning to end their brother’s life was so that he does not accomplish his dream. This is so sad. Do not be fooled by who the enemy uses, it doesn’t matter what packaging he disguises himself as, like Joseph’s life, it could be your siblings, your parents, close relatives, your best friend, business partner or even spouse. They don’t want to see you realise and accomplish your dream.

Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 (AMP)

At first you may not recognize them clearly, but your God given dream will eventually expose their hearts. Although Joseph brothers hated him because their father loved him most, even before he ever had a dream, they never planned to kill him. But the moment he had a dream for his life from God, the moment he discovered his destiny and probably he intended to take intentional steps to achieve it, although he did quiet figure out everything. That was enough cause for his brothers to seek his blood, and end his life.

The enemy hates that we are loved by God our father, but the moment we discover our destiny, he immediately starts to plan our demise so that we don’t end up living out our destinies. This is eye opening. By simply having a God given dream about your destiny you are a threat to the enemy so much so that, he seeks your death. So how do we protect ourselves from him. Now we have to understand that:

For though we walk in the flesh [as mortal men], we are not carrying on our [spiritual] warfare according to the flesh and using the weapons of man. The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5(AMP)

Confronting or attacking such people in our lives is not wise at all in fact it is contrary to what this verse above provides. We should ask God for wisdom, immediately after getting the dream. Do not share your dream. In case you are actively pursuing your dreams and experiences such encounters from dream killers. First you should ask God for wisdom. Wisdom must always be our first prayer request. Then pray that the Lord protects you, remember to forgive and pray for our enemies. Be encouraged that just like Joseph,

“No weapon that is formed against you will succeed; And every tongue that rises against you in judgment you will condemn. This [peace, righteousness, security, and triumph over opposition] is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And this is their vindication from Me,” says the Lord. Isaiah 54:17 (AMP)

So long as Jesus Christ is your Lord and Saviour, you are the righteousness of God in Christ. See 2 Corinthians 5:21 (AMP) He made Christ who knew no sin to [judicially] be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God [that is, we would be made acceptable to Him and placed in a right relationship with Him by His gracious loving kindness]. Because of your righteousness in Christ, you enjoy the Lord’s protection as your inheritance. What a wonderful Saviour.

Protection may not be exactly as we envision, but it is still protection meant to save us from danger. God used Reuben to change his brothers mind about killing Joseph. Later on, He used Judah to rescue Joseph from been killed and suggested they sell Him to the Ishmaelite traders. Let’s see how God saves Joseph from the jaws of death.

Now Reuben [the eldest] heard this and rescued him from their hands and said, “Let us not take his life.” Reuben said to them, “Do not shed his blood, but [instead] throw him [alive] into the pit that is here in the wilderness, and do not lay a hand on him [to kill him]”—[he said this so] that he could rescue him from them and return him [safely] to his father. Genesis 37:21-22 (AMP)
Judah said to his brothers, “What do we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood (murder)? 27 Come, let us [instead] sell him to these Ishmaelite’s [and Midianites] and not lay our hands on him, because he is our brother and our flesh.” So his brothers listened to him and agreed. Genesis 37:26-27(AMP)

Although the Lord does not plan evil for our lives, we may experience evil for people. However the Lord protects us and He make all things good and bad, work together for our good Romans 8:28 (AMP) so be confident in the Lord. The plan He has planned for your life is good to give you a future and a hope and He is faithful to carry you through it and see you possess your dreams.

Meditate on:
• The enemy hates that we are loved by God our father, but the moment we discover our destiny, he immediately starts to plan our demise so that we don’t end up living out our destinies.
• Isaiah 54:17
• 2 Corinthians 5:21
• Romans 8:28
