THE ROBE

on

When she saw that he had left his robe in her hand and had run outside, she called to the men of her household and said to them, “Look at this, your master has brought a Hebrew [into the household] to mock and insult us; he came to me to lie with me, and I screamed. When he heard me screaming, he left his robe with me and ran outside [the house].” So she left Joseph’s [outer] robe beside her until his master came home. Then she told her husband the same story, saying, “The Hebrew servant, whom you brought among us, came to me to mock and insult me; then as soon as I raised my voice and screamed, he left his robe with me and ran outside [the house].” (Genesis 39: 13-18 AMP)

Do you remember the robe? The one Joseph was gifted by his father, the one of many colours. The one that represented his father’s love for him. Do you recall what happened to it? That’s right! Joseph was stripped off his robe of many colours by his brother, they planned on using it to deceive their father. Joseph’s multi-coloured robe was used as false evidence to deceive their father symbolizing his demise.

...they took Joseph’s tunic, slaughtered a male goat and dipped the tunic in the blood; and they brought the multi-coloured tunic to their father, saying, “We have found this; please examine it and decide whether or not it is your son’s tunic.” (Gen 37:31-32 AMP)

Later on, we see that Joseph’s robe again!! was used by Potiphar’s wife to falsify evidence against him, that he tried to rape her. The robes in both circumstances belonged to Joseph and they were used against him. The purpose of using Joseph’s robes in both instances was to steal the truth of his father’s love from him to destroy his life from the pit, to slavery and to prison and destroy his God given dreams.

Remember the Lord said in John 10:10 that the thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]. The enemy was the author of all these failed attempts to destroy Joseph’s dreams. He kept on using his robe for a reason. Both of Joseph’s robes symbolises our weakness, the vulnerable areas in our lives where we are prone to fail. The enemy keeps attacking us consistently in those areas, hoping that we would fail. But just like Joseph, the LORD is with us, He is for us and He makes all things work together for our good.

Today I want to expose the ways the enemy uses to attack us. It is custom designed to our each specific weakness. Only God is the creator and because we are made in the image and likeness of God we are creative and therefore we co- create with Him. Meanwhile the enemy is a creation and not created in God’s image and likeness, therefore he is not creative that is why he kept on using the same medium to attack Joseph, he specialises in attacking us on the same weak areas in our lives. Just like he kept on using Joseph’s robes to his detriment. But, look up and take heart beloved. The LORD’S grace is sufficient for us and in our weakness, His power is made perfect.

As for us, we have all of these great witnesses who encircle us like clouds. So, we must let go of every wound that has pierced us and the sin we so easily fall into. Then we will be able to run life’s marathon race with passion and determination, for the path has been already marked out before us. Hebrews 12:1

Meditate on:
• God is the creator and because we are made in the image and likeness of God we are creative and therefore we co- create with Him.
• The enemy is a creation and he is not created in God’s image and likeness, therefore he is not creative, no wonder he specialises in attacking us on the same weak areas in our lives.
• 2 Corinthians 12:9 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
