So Jacob set out from Beersheba; and the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to carry him. And they took their livestock and the possessions which they had acquired in the land of Canaan and came to Egypt, Jacob and all his descendants with him. His sons and his grandsons, his daughters and his granddaughters, and all his descendants he brought with him to Egypt. Genesis 46:5- 7 (AMP)

Today’s devotion is a very encouraging one. It is about how to get the Lord’s attention. Without faith it is impossible to please God. Faith is trusting in the Lord, this backed by actions, which involve taking steps towards actualizing the instructions He has given us. Your obedience gets the Lord’s attention. It’s the only way to demonstrate that you love Him and it is faith in action.

The scripture above, is very interesting, it refers you two different persons using the same identity. It refers to Jacob as Jacob and his sons it makes a distinction and refers to them as the sons of Israel instead Jacob. This is because they obeyed what Pharaoh ordered them to do, not as a one time thing but continuously. Pharaoh gave the order that they should take his chariots that Joseph gave them and use them to ferry their father as well as all their family and possessions to Egypt and this is what they did.

Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them, John 14:21(AMP).

Pharaoh in this story is the most powerful king in the ancient world especially because of the fact Egypt was the only nation prospering during famine. He is a shadow representing God the Father. Obeying God is trusting Him that He loves us and that He has an amazing future and hope for our lives. God honours our obedience to extent that the Holy Spirit captures this through the variation of names in the bible.

What happens when we don’t trust in God? We fall short of our calling, the Israelites did this while in the wilderness did this, tell us hear what the Lord had to say about this.

For we are the lovers he cares for and he is the God we worship. So drop everything else and listen to his voice! For this is what he’s saying:

“Today, when I speak, don’t even think about turning a deaf ear to me like they did when they tested me at Meribah and Massah, the place where they argued with me, their Creator. Your ancestors challenged me over and over with their complaining, even though I had convinced them of my power and love. They still doubted my care for them. So for forty long years I was grieved and disgusted by them.
I described them as wicked wanderers whose hearts would not follow my ways or keep my words. So I made a vow in my anger and declared, ‘They will never enter the resting place I’ve planned for them!’
So don’t you ever be hard-hearted or stubborn like they were!” Psalm 95:7-11 (TPT)

Meditate on:
Indeed, as Jesus Christ said in John 12: 25-26

“The person who loves his life and pampers himself will miss true life! But the one who detaches his life from this world and abandons himself to me, will find true life and enjoy it forever! 26 If you want to be my disciple, follow me and you will go where I am going. And if you truly follow me as my disciple, the Father will shower his favor upon your life.
