Now the Lord appeared to Abraham by the terebinth trees of Mamre [in Hebron], while he was sitting at the tent door in the heat of the day. When he raised his eyes and looked up, behold, three men were standing [a little distance] from him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed down [with his face] to the ground, and Abraham said, “My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please do not pass by your servant [without stopping to visit]. Please let a little water be brought [by one of my servants] and [you may] wash your feet, and recline and rest comfortably under the tree. Genesis 18:1-4(AMP)
What a beautiful refreshing devotion, this is today. This happen to be verse from which our Pastor taught about in church. Mamre in Hebron means the fatness for fellowship with the Lord. Abraham enjoyed this, so much so that the Holy Spirit records it for us to study learn and apply, so lets do it.
The scriptures opens up with the Lord (Jesus Christ) appearing to Abraham by the terebinth trees of Mamre in Hebron. This was when Abraham waited for the Lord sitted at the tent door in the heat of the day. What a beautiful picture, is painted here for us to behold. When life gets tough, devoid of joy and passion, just like Abraham we should rest on the Lord’s word, trust His faithfulness and wait on the Lord. For He will come and strengthen us, refreshing us with His love and promises of hope which are true.
As we wait on the Lord, we should keep our hope alive. We do this by naturing our gifts and serving others our gifts in love. Abraham was old in this verse, regardless of his age, he was determined to serve the three men who appeared before him, he didn’t even know them but out of an overflow of love, he served them. This was during the heat of the day, been in an arid area, this was not a favourable time to work, infact men of Abraham’s age, would be resting but not Abraham. He served visitors he didn’t know excellently and passionately.
We should all emulate Abraham’s example, regardless of our circumstances, whether or not we are hurting, or old, we should have a kind heart to serve others our gifts excellently in love. This means we must first discover and develop our gifts, more than that we should have the Lord’s heart for his people. This is what I refer to as looking up! Abraham raised his eyes and looked up as well. We should have a genuine heart of love and for us to get this we must behold Christ Jesus, for as we behold Him we are transformed into the same image. The various ways we behold Christ Jesus is by listening to annointed preaching about Christ Jesus, this will help us grow in knowledge of God and enable us to serve Him appropriately by worshipping Him in all we do.
I hope this encourages your heart especially if your going through a tough time. Wait on the Lord, looking up and I can boldly assure you that ..Here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Don’t give up; don’t be impatient; be entwined as one with the Lord. Be brave and courageous, and never lose hope.Yes, keep on waiting—for He will never disappoint you! Psalms 27:14 (TPT)
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:29-31(NKJV)
