BIRTHING DREAMS IN PLEASURE

And He said, “I will certainly return to you according to the time of life, and behold, Sarah your wife shall have a son.” (Sarah was listening in the tent door which was behind him.) Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age; and Sarah had passed the age of childbearing. Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?” And the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I surely bear a child, since I am old?’Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son." But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. And He said, “No, but you did laugh!” Genesis 18:10-15

Waiting, we’ve all had to wait for something or someone sometime. I bet after waiting for a long period of time, we mostly loose our joy and enthusiasm for whatever it was that we were waiting for. Today devotion is about this. Abraham and Sarah were no strangers to waiting. Been old, and childless, they already had there share of waiting, they wanted a child so badly one who would carry on their legacy and one who when he matures.

I bet they tried so many times to conceive this child, infact they ended up conceiving Ismael instead through Hagar. They tried to help the Lord out, they got tried of waiting, their patience run thin and short. The result of their faithless action is the fact that Ismael became the father arguably today, the Islamic believers which is an enemy of Israel.

Regardless the Lord is gracious, kind and faithful, He visited Abraham in the heat of the day, when it was scorching and uncomfortable, He went on to give Abraham and Sarah a promise and a hope, to what seemed like a hopeless childless situation. Indeed Jeremiah 29:11 captures the good and gracious heart of our Fatherin Heaven. Regardless of our circumstances, He has a good plan for each of our lives and not an evil plan, to give us a hope and future.

The Lord promised to return to them according to the time of life which I believe is the appointed time of God for Isaac’s birth, some people refer to it as the the fulness of time. Habukuk spoke of such time, that though it tarries, we are to wait for it, for it will speak and it will not lie. All His promises are yes and Amen in Christ Jesus.

Write the vision, And make it plain on tablets,That he may run who reads it.For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry. Habakkuk 2:2-3

The Lord prophesied/promised the birth of Isaac. It was so good that Sarah doubted it. Infact it comforts me with hope, that she questioned whether she would have pleasure bringing forth her son. This shows that the long period of waiting stole her joy, and she wondered about the circumstances of bring forth her son. But the Lord in His mercy, made it so, that she would not only have pleasure, but the name of her son, Isaac, would mean laughter.

The name Isaac became a memorial unti the Lord’s grace, where in a hopeless situation, He became the hope and brought forth joy and pleasure to what seemed like a long exhausting wait. Sarah with her husband, Abraham, brought forth Isaac with pleasure. What a good God. Sometimes I think, our praises and worships would never be enough to express His holy character. I am glad to be in a relationship with Him.

In case you’re not, simply read this prayer out loud, and accept the Lord Christ as your personal Saviour.
