Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, “My father and my brothers, with their flocks and their herds and all that they own, have come from the land of Canaan, and they are in the land of Goshen.” He took five men from among his brothers and presented them to Pharaoh. And Pharaoh said to his brothers [as Joseph expected], “What is your occupation?” And they said to Pharaoh, “Your servants are shepherds, both we and our fathers [before us].” Moreover, they said to Pharaoh, “We have come to live temporarily (sojourn) in the land [of Egypt], for there is no pasture for the flocks of your servants [in our land], for the famine is very severe in Canaan. So now, please let your servants live in the land of Goshen.” Then Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, saying, “Your father and your brothers have come to you. The land of Egypt is before you; settle your father and your brothers in the best of the land. Let them live in the land of Goshen; and if you know of any men of ability among them, put them in charge of my livestock.” Genesis 47:1-6 (AMP)
Today’s devotion is about our in house counsel. By now we already know and understand that Joseph is a shadow of Jesus Christ, Joseph has access or audience with the King, Pharaoh. This is because Pharaoh made him the 2nd most powerful ruler in Egypt, the 2nd in command of entire Egypt. In addition to this, Pharaoh heart was turned towards Joseph. Joseph when he introduced himself to his brothers, he referred to the father of Pharaoh.
So now it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh and lord of all his household and ruler over all the land of Egypt. Genesis 45:8 (AMP)
Joseph was not only officially acquainted with Pharaoh officially but also personally and relationally. He became the father to Pharaoh, there is no doubt that Pharaoh loved Joseph. This is a gracious picture of how Jesus Christ and the Father. The Father loves Jesus Christ so much and trust Him alone. Just like Joseph was entrusted with revelation from God that save the ancient world from a severe drought and Pharaoh believed and Joseph trusted Joseph that he made him second in command to him.
All this is simply a shadow of Christ Jesus, He was sent by His Father, who is God to save the entire human race from eternal destruction. He submitted to the will and purpose of his Father to the point of death at the cross now no one can come to the Father unless it is through the Son. The best part of it is that the Son is for us, He loves us, died for us and He gave up His deity nature, and took the form of a human being, just to redeem us. Just like Israel and his sons had one of their own in power, Joseph, who looked after their welfare, we have One of our own, Jesus Christ who took the form of a human being, He is at the right hand of God interceding for us, our great High priest.
The Lord constantly guides us, through the Holy Spirit showing us what to do and say, just like Joseph went beforehand to his family and he told them exactly what to tell the King, which is that they are shepherds. Let us trust Him.
