Then the king said to me, “What do you request?” So I prayed to the God of heaven. And I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, I ask that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ tombs, that I may rebuild it.” Nehemiah 2:4-5 (AMP)
Can you imagine standing before the most powerful man in your country, say the president and concerned because of your countenance he asks, what do you request?
This was Nehemiah’s predicament, he was so affected by the news his brother brought from his trip to Judah where his friends accompanied him. Despite been in a high rank serving the King in his royal courts as the cupbearer, he still cared for his people who survived and left captivity.
Unfortunately these people were in great distress and reproach because the wall of Jerusalem was broken down, and its gates are burned with fire. This news affected Nehemiah so much that he started fasting interceding for them before the Lord day and night. He asked God for favor before the King.
Fast forward to now, God granted him favor before the King, instead of been arrested and thrown into prison for appearing sad before the Persian king, the King instead asks him for his request regarding the situation. God answered his prayer, He gave him favor before the King whose power was currently at Nehemiah will
I love what Nehemiah does, the bible records he asks God via prayer what to ask. I think we should all learn from Nehemiah, inquire of the Lord’s will concerning our situation. No matter how urgent the situation, we should all consult the Lord. He is not only our loving Father but He is the spirit of wisdom and He know all things and He is for us.
“ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him. (Matthew 7:8-11)
God our Heavenly Father loves us immeasurably and He is powerful and holy. So imagine if us as human beings not been holy know how to gift our children how much more our Heavenly Father. So never hesitate asking the Lord for guidance in Jesus name. Ask so that your joy may be full.
Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. (John 16:23-24)
Àfter Nehemiah inquired of the Lord, the Lord answered him in detail and He appointed him to go back to Judah rebuild the wall. And so he answered the King, requesting for the necessary tools for the task and the King favourably granted him every thing he asked. Considering the urgency of the situation, Nehemiah still inquired of the will of God in the situation. So ask you Heavenly Father, don’t be afraid ask big. You have not because you ask not.
